The dimensions of SHIKI: 4-SEASONS LINEAR CALENDAR upon completion will be approximately 1.3 meters (4 ft. 3 in.) high by 9.14 meters (30 ft.) long. This length far exceeds the size of my studio, hence, the need to "scroll" the paper on which SHIKI is being painted. The paper is moved by a high-torque, low r.p.m. reduction-geared motor, and can be scrolled slowly in both "forward" and "backwards" directions. While this makes the creation of SHIKI possible in a confined space, the obvious limitation is that I am not able to see the work in its entirety during the stages of creation. This is an unfortunate, but necessary trade-off.
